Leon + Rob; East Meets West at this Gatsby Inspired Wedding at The Gates on Roblin

It is always an honour to photograph friends, and Rob + Leon were no exception.  Their Gatsby-inspired wedding at Winnipeg’s iconic Gates on Roblin took place in September and was also featured on Wedding Bells National.  Guests flew in from not only across Canada, but the rest of the world as well.  Rob grew up in British Columbia, while Leon hails from the East Coast and has lived in Bermuda.  They both have lived in numerous places but met when they both moved to Winnipeg for their professional training as family physicians.

While the guys started at Blacksmith Parlour for some pampering, the girls had the entire Be You Tee Bar to have their hair and makeup done.  After we all met up, we headed to the Manitoba Legislative Building for portraits and then back to the couple’s newly purchased home to finish getting ready for the rest of the day.

After everyone was ready, the wedding party piled in luxury buses and headed to the Gates on Roblin.  Rob and Leon had their guests seated in a  360 degree circle as they  both entered down the aisle on opposite sides, meeting in the center.  Their wedding party walked in carrying or walking dogs that were available for adoption by a local shelter CAARE Rescue, instead of carrying bouquets.  After the ceremony, guests were treated to cocktails on the deck while Little Harp on the Prairie continued to play before everyone was seated for dinner.

The excitement doesn’t stop! After their choreographed first dance, Rob and Leon were surprised by their wedding planner by a drag performance of “It’s Raining Men.”  After all the heartfelt speeches finished for the night, the party continued on the dance floor with the one and only Danny Kramer Band.

Rob + Leon, your wedding left me speechless.  The bond and love you two have for each other and the massive network of family and friends who came miles to come celebrate you, speaks testament to the kind souls you both genuinely are.
